TO HOST NeSMITH CHEVROLET DLMS JULY 3-4
FORT PAYNE, AL – Fort Payne Motor Speedway will host the
NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Tour this Thursday
and Friday nights for the Red Top Auto Auctions 75 paying
$5,000-to-win. Over 50
teams representing ten states are expected for Round 10 of the 2008
NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series season.
The top NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National
Touring teams will be taking on the local Fort Payne Motor Speedway
NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing drivers on the newly reconfigured wide
3/8-mile clay oval that lends itself to two and three-wide racing.
The NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS appeared at
the old half-mile facility when it was called
Thunder
Mountain
Speedway
in 2006. The track got its
new name and shape this year, and the racing has been excellent for
NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition on Friday nights.
Chip Brindle of Chatsworth, GA leads the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS
National point standings by 34 points over Larry Boutwell of Baker,
FL. The “Brindle
Bulldog” has 708 points with three top five finishes, and five top
ten finishes in nine starts. The
“Baker Law Breaker” has 674 points with two top five finishes,
five top ten finishes, and one pole award in nine starts.
The “Tazer” Chris Tays of Corinth, MS rides in the third
spot of the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National standings with 664 points,
just ten points behind Boutwell, having turned in two top fives and
three top ten finishes. Scott
Knowles of Lanett, AL is fourth in the points chase with 626 points,
and leads the Sunoco Race Fuels Rookie of the Year point standings.

Championship Runner-Up Jay Blair of
Angie

LA
is fifth with 620 points. The
“Angie Assassin” has one win, and two top five finishes in nine
starts this season.
Sunoco Race Fuels Rookie of the Year
candidate Hunter Peacock of Macon, GA is sixth with 608 points based
on one win, three top fives, five top tens, and a series-leading three
pole awards. Ted Lackey of
Munford, AL is seventh in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National points
chase with 596 points.
Jason Hiett of Lincoln, AL has had
success this season on both the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Tour,
and in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series action on Friday nights
at
Fort
Payne
Motor
Speedway
.
Hiett is ninth overall in the National standings with 586
points with two top fives and three top tens in nine starts, and he
also has a win at
Fort
Payne
Motor
Speedway
in Weekly Racing Series competition.
Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA and
Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS are tied for the tenth spot in the NeSmith
Chevrolet DLMS National standings with 568 points.
“Turner Sideways” has two top fives and four top tens and
will be looking to have the boys at the Dawsonville Pool Room ring the
Victory Bell as they have so many times for his cousin, Bill Elliott.

Touring teams expected this Thursday and Friday night at Fort Payne
Motor Speedway include Derrick Rainey of Powder Springs, GA, Frank
Ingram of Woodstock, GA, Chad Wallace of LaGrange, GA, and Marcus
Minga of Shannon, MS.
Race fans will also be able to catch a
glimpse of the future of dirt late model racing and beyond this
Thursday and Friday night at Fort Payne Motor Speedway, as NeSmith
Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region competitor 12-year-old
Tyler Allen of Indianapolis, IN will travel to Alabama to take on the
big boys.
Allen, a graduate of go-karts and Mini
Sprints, is in his second full-season of dirt late model racing, and
finished seventh last year in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing
Series
Indiana
point standings. Allen is
a protégé of National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee and race
car builder C.J. Rayburn.
The local contingent of NeSmith Chevrolet
Weekly Racing Series drivers that compete on a weekly basis at Fort
Payne Motor Speedway trying to keep the big money at home include
Blake Stewart of Centre, AL, Kasey Hall of Geraldine, AL, Greg Chumley
of Attalla, AL, and former NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series
Track Champion “Downtown” Sammy Brown of Fyffe, AL.

will host a special practice session on Wednesday night in preparation
for the Red Top Auto Auctions 75 on Thursday and Friday nights.
To accommodate the local church, the practice session will be
from
8:30
p.m.
to
10:30
p.m.
On Thursday night, the NeSmith Chevrolet
DLMS will compete in Time Trials to set the field for the Heat Races
that will determine the front starting spots for Friday night’s main
event. Drivers that fail
to qualify for the big show out of the heat races on Thursday night
will return on Friday night to try and make the main event through one
of two B-Main races.
The $5,000-to-win 75-lap main event will
be run on Friday night in addition to the two B-Main races.
On both Thursday night and Friday night, the gates open at
4 p.m.
