FORT PAYNE, AL – Fort Payne Motor Speedway will host the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Tour this Thursday and Friday nights for the Red Top Auto Auctions 75 paying $5,000-to-win.  Over 50 teams representing ten states are expected for Round 10 of the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series season.

The top NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring teams will be taking on the local Fort Payne Motor Speedway NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing drivers on the newly reconfigured wide 3/8-mile clay oval that lends itself to two and three-wide racing.

The NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS appeared at the old half-mile facility when it was called Thunder Mountain Speedway in 2006.  The track got its new name and shape this year, and the racing has been excellent for NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition on Friday nights.

Chip Brindle of Chatsworth, GA leads the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National point standings by 34 points over Larry Boutwell of Baker, FL.  The “Brindle Bulldog” has 708 points with three top five finishes, and five top ten finishes in nine starts.  The “Baker Law Breaker” has 674 points with two top five finishes, five top ten finishes, and one pole award in nine starts.

The “Tazer” Chris Tays of Corinth, MS rides in the third spot of the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National standings with 664 points, just ten points behind Boutwell, having turned in two top fives and three top ten finishes.  Scott Knowles of Lanett, AL is fourth in the points chase with 626 points, and leads the Sunoco Race Fuels Rookie of the Year point standings.

The 2007 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Championship Runner-Up Jay Blair of Angie , LA is fifth with 620 points.  The “Angie Assassin” has one win, and two top five finishes in nine starts this season.

Sunoco Race Fuels Rookie of the Year candidate Hunter Peacock of Macon, GA is sixth with 608 points based on one win, three top fives, five top tens, and a series-leading three pole awards.  Ted Lackey of Munford, AL is seventh in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National points chase with 596 points.

Jason Hiett of Lincoln, AL has had success this season on both the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Tour, and in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series action on Friday nights at Fort Payne Motor Speedway .  Hiett is ninth overall in the National standings with 586 points with two top fives and three top tens in nine starts, and he also has a win at Fort Payne Motor Speedway in Weekly Racing Series competition.

Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA and Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS are tied for the tenth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National standings with 568 points.  “Turner Sideways” has two top fives and four top tens and will be looking to have the boys at the Dawsonville Pool Room ring the Victory Bell as they have so many times for his cousin, Bill Elliott.

Other top NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Touring teams expected this Thursday and Friday night at Fort Payne Motor Speedway include Derrick Rainey of Powder Springs, GA, Frank Ingram of Woodstock, GA, Chad Wallace of LaGrange, GA, and Marcus Minga of Shannon, MS.

Race fans will also be able to catch a glimpse of the future of dirt late model racing and beyond this Thursday and Friday night at Fort Payne Motor Speedway, as NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region competitor 12-year-old Tyler Allen of Indianapolis, IN will travel to Alabama to take on the big boys.

Allen, a graduate of go-karts and Mini Sprints, is in his second full-season of dirt late model racing, and finished seventh last year in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Indiana point standings.  Allen is a protégé of National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee and race car builder C.J. Rayburn.

The local contingent of NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series drivers that compete on a weekly basis at Fort Payne Motor Speedway trying to keep the big money at home include Blake Stewart of Centre, AL, Kasey Hall of Geraldine, AL, Greg Chumley of Attalla, AL, and former NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Track Champion “Downtown” Sammy Brown of Fyffe, AL.

Fort Payne Motor Speedway will host a special practice session on Wednesday night in preparation for the Red Top Auto Auctions 75 on Thursday and Friday nights.  To accommodate the local church, the practice session will be from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

On Thursday night, the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS will compete in Time Trials to set the field for the Heat Races that will determine the front starting spots for Friday night’s main event.  Drivers that fail to qualify for the big show out of the heat races on Thursday night will return on Friday night to try and make the main event through one of two B-Main races.

The $5,000-to-win 75-lap main event will be run on Friday night in addition to the two B-Main races.  On both Thursday night and Friday night, the gates open at 4 p.m. , with racing scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
